GibYellow is Gibraltar’s business, government and residential directory, the first point of call for information on the rock. The website is the third most visited in Gibraltar and the physical directory reaches a high proportion of home & business addresses.
GibYellow initially reached out to us to request a mobile app version of their digital directory. We discussed their goals for this work and understood that the real problem was that their main website wasn’t mobile responsive. No real solution was in place for mobile users, and although they had a mobile version of their site, it wasn’t loading by default for mobile users. We worked with GibYellow to understand their target audience more and focused on delivering a great user experience. We worked efficiently, using the budget to achieve the best result and improving the website’s mobile experience.
We then continued to work on improvements for the site, suggesting new features with a user-driven mindset. We made many changes to help staff, improve user experience and increase revenue opportunities.
During our work, we noticed that there were impediments to security, quality and SEO, all of which couldn’t be patched easily with the framework of the GibYellow website. With great consideration, we evaluated possibilities to remedy this, keeping the potential for a good return in mind.
We proposed that the site be rebuilt, following code best practices and using a standard framework, to solve many of these issues and allow future development to be easier and cheaper for GibYellow. It also offered more possibilities to innovate, creating great resources for the end user and potential new revenue streams for GibYellow.
We agreed together a direction for the rebuild, and carried this out, working first to create the minimum viable product (a replication of the existing system, within a new framework), then moved forward adding new functionality and improving the workings. We cut down large chunks of admin time for GibYellow staff with automation and improved usability, allowing them to focus on more valuable activities.
